About Alida P. van Heerden, L.Ac.
I’m a New York State Licensed and Nationally Board Certified NYC Acupuncturist.
I received a Master Science in Acupuncture (MSAC) and a Bachelor’s in Professional Studies from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York City. I’m also an active member of the Acupuncture Society of New York, and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
With a background in psychology, science, music, and art, I bring to my acupuncture practice a love of the workings of the human mind and body. Pain in the body affects the mind and the spirit. It impairs the flow of vital energy causing chronic exhaustion, depression, insomnia, anxiety, overeating, and takes away enjoyment from life…all of which enervate the immune system and can manifest as asthma, headaches, arthritis, allergies, sciatica, digestive disorders, etc.
I feel that recognizing the individuality of each patient is the fundamental concern of a true healer. I blend Chinese and Japanese acupuncture needle technique to balance energy flow in the body and promote its innate ability to heal itself. I also incorporate in my practice a deep understanding of face and ear diagnosis, which are advanced face and body reading methods in Oriental medicine. Each treatment includes a unique combination of acupuncture, Chinese bodywork and Japanese abdominal massage.
